A very Brief Background
Hello, for my first blog, I thought I’d try not to bore you all to death… For those of you who don’t know me, I thought I would share with you a bit about myself.
Where to begin, let’s start with my name, I’m Sam Westlake, 32 years young (at the time of writing this) and have grown up and lived in Hereford my whole life.
I am the founder of IllumiNight Mobile Disco, which I started up back in October 2015. Before this, I DJ’d at Hereford Rowing Club, using their kit for 2 years before deciding to take the plunge and work for myself.
Now 8 years on my business has grown massively and I get the pleasure of DJing and working with many fantastic clients, venues and local suppliers on a regular basis.
Why I DJ
I’m constantly bombarded with the question, “Why do you DJ?” Well, it’s not just the same old cliché of “I do it for the love of the music” like most DJs claim. It’s more like I do it because I’ve always wanted to press play and watch everyone suddenly become professional dancers, even if only in their minds!
Seriously, the main reason I DJ is to help create those unforgettable memories for those who choose me for their significant event, whether it’s a wedding, birthday, or any other celebration.
I completely understand that music is subjective and what works at one event may not necessarily work at another. Each person’s music preferences are unique, and I’m committed to delivering the music people WANT rather than offering a generic outdated playlist just because it was successful at an event 5 years ago.
Some people love the idea of having the likes of Y.M.C.A and Macarena on their wedding day, others it’s their worst nightmare. I adapt what I play to suit YOU and your needs for an evening.
Random Bits
Just to keep things on the light side here’s a few random bits about myself:
- I have a 5-year-old son, who makes me proud every day. Kind, caring, and funny (he must get it from his Dad)!
- I also work in adult care, with individuals who have learning difficulties and challenging behavior. Very rewarding and I often get asked to DJ their birthday parties as they love music too!
- I have an allergy to bananas – yes, that’s right, bananas. They don’t turn me yellow, which is good, but they leave me in agonizing pain after eating them. Strange, I know, but apparently my Nan has the same issue too!
- My all-time favorite food is pizza – I am a firm believer that pineapple does belong on a pizza. Sorry if this upsets anyone, but it makes a great food even better!

Like I said at the start I hope I haven’t made you die of boredom reading this (apologies if I have)!
